The Children's Study Home
2015-2016
Placement Description
During my senior year at Western New England University I served as a family support worker intern at The Children's Study Home Family Program. Throughout my time at The Children' Study Home I provided parent education services to parents involved within the Child Welfare System. In Massachusetts it is known as The Department of Children and Families (DCF). While interning at The Children' Study Home I worked one-on-one with parents and DCF towards reunification and family stabilization. I facilitated communication between parents, children, foster care/residential programs, other outside agencies, and the family's DCF social worker.
Research Project
In my senior year at Western New England University I completed a research course in which I had to complete a research study related to my internship. Fortunately, in my spring semester The Children's Study Home decided to implement a new program within the Family Program. I took this opportunity to create an extensive research project around the effectiveness of the program. This research project can be viewed within the course work section of this website or below.

Treatment Plans/Treatment Reviews
As a family support worker at The Children's Study Home I came to the realization that completing mutually agreed upon goals for the treatment plan with the parents became a crucial incentive for them to fully participate within the services that The Children's Study Home provide. In addition to completing treatment plans, I also completed treatment reviews every three months that I presented to the DCF worker. Below I have attached a copy of both treatment plans and treatment reviews.

Policy Advocacy
While interning at The Children's Study Home I found many of the policies around worker safety concerning. I felt it was necessary to write a letter to the Executive Director about my concerns even though I was only an intern. Below I have attached my letter.
